Rough Guide for Word Limits

The Practical Project   Maximum 1400 words

As each project is different and each section is likely to have different requirements it is difficult to be specific about limits for each section.  It is therefore necessary to exercise a degree of judgement as to appropriate lengths of sections in order to fulfil the requirement that the overall maximum must not be exceeded.

The overall maximum does not include references, appendices, tables or headings.

Abstract:     100 – 150 words
Background: 250 words
Hypotheses:  100 words [including the aim and its operationalisation]
Methodology: 300 words
Results:        150 – 200 words
Discussion:   400 words

The Assignment   Maximum 1000 words

Again the overall word limit must not be exceeded and depending on the source these are only suggestions as to the approximate lengths of each section.  The overall maximum does not include references or headings.

  1. Issues/ Assumptions         200 – 250 words
  2. Evidence                          500 words
  3. Suggestions                     200 – 250 words
